Hello & welcome to timdarbyphotography.com - thank you for visiting! Please allow me to tell you a little more about myself and my background in photography:
Nothing makes me happier than sharing my passion of photography with others. Many of my past experiences and memories help shape the things that I love and enjoy photographing. I strive to have my work speak for me and to show the natural beauty that I see and experience on a daily basis. I seek to interpret this beauty and creatively photograph it from a unique perspective to express my thoughts and emotions. It is truly amazing to see how many ways a simple, yet beautiful scene can be interpreted by so many people. I believe that beauty can be found literally anywhere and should be shared and enjoyed by everyone. This beauty should be used and shared to help people, whether it is to bring a smile to someone’s face, or to bring attention to a worthy cause, that is the reason I create my images. Although my subjects are diverse, some of my favorites are landscape photography, travel photography, specifically National Parks, as well as shooting the many waterways and wildlife in Florida.
I was born and raised in Lakeland, Florida and love being a native Floridian. From an early age I have always been involved in athletic and outdoor activities and some of these experiences as well as the places I have visited are reflected in my work. From the time I was a little boy I always enjoyed watching people take pictures, and taking pictures of my own, but I never really enjoyed being in the photos. I distinctly remember my Grandfather, who is one of my key photographic influences, always taking photos of the family. I have had a camera with me ever since.
I have also had many unique and life changing experiences during my youth. I had the unique opportunity to be an exchange student in Imabari, Japan. While in Japan I lived, went to school, and toured the country. Seeing the beautiful history, culture, and architecture instilled in me my appreciation for travel and the beautiful landscapes and architecture of areas all over the world. While attending Lakeland Senior High School, I was introduced to the arts and music where I took courses in computer graphics and played Trumpet in the band. I also had the opportunity to spend two summers in Washington D.C. first serving as a page in the House of Representatives, then as an intern with Congressman Charles T. Canady.
I then attended the University of Florida and double majored receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminology. While at the University of Florida I had the life changing experience of working for the Men's Basketball team and Coach Billy Donovan during the 2000-2004 seasons as a student manager. The friends, life experiences, and stories I have from those years are some of my favorites. I still work with the sports information department at UF as a spotter for the stat crew so you can still spot me in the front row at the scorer's table at all home UF basketball games.
In January of 2006 I started law school at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida. While in law school I received a certificate in sports and entertainment law and had a specific interest in intellectual property as well as elder law. While in law school I found myself with a need for some stress relief as well as a creative outlet to pursue in my spare time so the camera was back in my hands at last. After a few months of shooting I fell in love with photography all over again. Every spare minute I had and even some I didn't have were spent shooting and learning. Photography truly was the outlet and stress relief I needed to help me survive law school.
This "break" turned into a passion as well as a great opportunity for me when I assisted the Florida Times-Union and their photographers at The Players Championship. I was able to assist, and more importantly, learn from some of the best photographers and editors in Florida. The opportunity to work and learn from such great professionals was an honor and has had a strong influence on my current work.
I have worked for the Florida Times-Union, The University of Florida Athletic Association Communications Department (to view some of my sports work go to my Sportsshooter Page, conservation groups such as the St. John’s Riverkeeper, and Trust for Public Land in their initiative to protect the St. John’s River. Finally, I am honored to say that some of my photos were used in Tim Tebow's book "Through My Eyes"
I graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law in December of 2008 and was selected by my peers to speak at the convocation ceremony. After two months of extensive preparation and review I sat for the Florida Bar in February of 2009 which I passed and I am currently a member of the Florida Bar.
